Today Synology announced the return of their four-bay slim NAS unit. Their previous product, the DS409slim was lauded for its small size and quiet operation but it was pricey and capacity was limited. The new DiskStation DS411slim will also support four 2.5-inch drives, meaning minimal size, volume, and power consumption but this unit can still handle up to 4TB (4x1TB) and has twice the RAM of its predecessor. The unit measures in at just 120mm x 105mm x 142mm (4.7 x 4.13 x 5.6-inches) so it will fit in a number of places where a standard four-disk NAS (that uses 3.5-inch disks) cannot. An added perk of the small disks is that power consumption is kept very low, ranging from 9W (idle) to 16W (operating). Despite the small package the DS211slim runs a 1.6GHz processor and packs in 256MB of RAM so performance should be reasonable despite its emphasis on size.AdChoices广告As with Synology’s other NAS devices the DS411slim runs DiskStation Manager 3.0 for backend controls.
